A Masque of Characters: an Early 17th-century English Entertainment

Mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal joins Duo Maresienne (Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, renaissance lute) in a program of music from the Stuart courts. There will be songs by Dowland, Coperario, and Johnson, and instrumental fantasias and dance music by Johnson, Dowland, Sumarte and Hume. Ms. Dellal will sing “Sweet birds deprive us never” by John Bartlet, a song in imitation of bird-calls, as well as Nicolas Lanier’s great “Hero and Leander” setting.
