An Evening at Cafe Zimmermann
March 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm CDT
Free
One of J.S. Bach’s greatest joys was directing and writing chamber music for his Collegium Musicum, a group of professional and amateur musicians, students, and visiting virtuosi that met weekly to play music at Gottfried Zimmermann’s coffeehouse in Leipzig.
Join us for a celebration of “Early Music Month” and Bach’s 338th Birthday with an evening of music and merriment inspired by these concerts at Cafe Zimmermann, featuring works by Bach himself and some of his dearest friends and illustrious contemporaries, including Georg Philipp Telemann, George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, and François Couperin.
We are proud to be partnering with Chicago Teahouse, whose team of experts will be providing a curated selection of teas specially ‘paired’ with the music you’ll hear. Enjoy a complimentary cuppa as we whisk you away on an 18th-century musical journey to the warm and cozy confines of Cafe Zimmermann.
Performers:
Hannah De Priest, soprano
Benjamin Lenzmeier, baroque violin
Cora Swenson Lee, baroque cello
Brandon Acker, archlute
Jason J. Moy, harpsichord
Admission is FREE; a suggested donation of $20 will be collected at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the performers.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
