This class will study Stephen Paxton’s Solos for bassoon or cello.

The Early Sonata: Bertoli Sonatas Part 2

This is a continuation of the Bertoli class given in July. 


We will mostly concentrate on sonatas 3 and 4 of the Bertoli Sonatas (1645), in sections (last class we played 1 and 2 and discussed continuo). These are purportedly the first collection of sonatas dedicated to one instrument and continuo. 


A = 440, open to all bass instruments that fit the range (dulcian, gamba, cello, bass). 

Advanced intermediate level, but but open to all.


The Bertoli Sonatas for this class are available for download on IMSLP.

Late Renaissance Wind Band Music from Guatemala and Ecuador 

Welcome to late Renaissance music from South America. We will play and discuss Guatemalan and Ecuadorian church music co-written by indigenous people of the area and missionaries.

This class will talk about 18th century oboe band literature and play through various oboe band pieces by Handel, Lotti and Lully among others.

Holiday music for Baroque winds from around the world

These selections are bound to prepare you for the season. Music from Charpentier, Bach, Santiago de Murcia and others.
