Artifex Consort Feste Champêtre: Courtly Delicacies for Viols, Rustic and Refined

February 28 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST

$7 – $17

Members of Los Angeles-based viol ensemble Artifex Consort present a lush program of virtuosic French Baroque viol music, featuring—as a rare treat—both of Marin Marais’ decadent Pièces a 3 Violes from Pièces de Viole Livre IV (1717). The height of rhetorical brilliance, these works (alongside an array of colorful, enticing miniatures) showcase Marais as a master musical conversationalist, eloquently contrasting childlike play with deep pathos, dramatic pyrotechnics with poised courtly-dance sensibilities, and cunning intellect with raucous humor.

Generously sponsored by the Taylor Johnston Early Music Series Endowment established by Taylor Johnston
