Bach’s Birthday Celebration

April 1 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

$10 – $25

Blue Hill Bach is pleased to welcome organist James Kennerley for a (slightly belated) celebration of J.S. Bach’s 338th birthday. Performing on the beautiful Karl Wilhelm organ at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church, Kennerley will explore a variety of styles from all periods of the composer’s oeuvre. On the program are four chorale preludes, three of which are based on Martin Luther’s hymn, “Nun komm der Heiden Heiland,” the Organ Concerto in G Major, BWV 592, which was Bach’s transcription of an instrumental concerto by Prinz Johann Ernst, the Prelude and Fugue in G major, BWV 550, and the massive Toccata in F major, which features two extended solos for pedal alone. The Bach’s birthday concert kicks off Blue Hill Bach’s 13th season, and marks Kennerley’s debut with the organization. He will return to conduct and perform during the 2023 summer festival, July 16-22.
