Baroque Dance with Marie Nathalie Lacoursiere

In the early-modern world, dance was closely linked with music, social status, and spectacle. In each of four sessions, we will learn basic steps of Baroque and English Country Dances, as well as their role in early modern society.
Registration is open now. The room will open 10 minutes before the start of the class and will be locked 5 minutes after the start time.
Stage director, choreographer and dancer Marie-Nathalie began her career as a baroque dancer in the 1993-94 season of Les Idées Heureuses directed by harpsichordist Geneviève Soly. A specialist in ancient dance, she founded Les Jardins Chorégraphiques in 2008. She has directed and choreographed over 30 baroque or contemporary operas in Canada and abroad. Marie-Nathalie has been invited to numerous festivals, including the Montreal Baroque Festival and the Saint -Riquier festival in France directed by Hervé Niquet. She was invited four times at the prestigious Boston Early Music Festival were she choreographed Steffani’s Orlando furioso. She will co-direct in the 2021 festival their two chamber operas. She has taught at the University of Montreal, McGill, UBC in Vancouver, the Toronto Conservatory, Stanford University in California, York University in Toronto, as well as the Academy opera house in Lunenburg, NS and the Orford Academy.
