Baroque Dance with Peggy Murray

Presented for free as part of Early Music America’s “The Well-Tempered Musician” wellness series.
In the early-modern world, dance was closely linked with music, social status, and spectacle. In each of four sessions, we will learn basic steps of Baroque and English Country Dances, as well as their role in early modern society.
Registration is available now. The meeting will open 10 minutes before the start time and will be locked 5 minutes past the start time.
Peggy Murray, a dancer, scholar and instructor, holds a Ph.D. in performance studies from Ohio University’s School of Interdisciplinary Arts. A former ballet and jazz dancer, Murray is now dedicated to historical dance. She works extensively with Renaissance and Baroque dance, and studies the role and development of dancing in Europe and the Americas during the colonial period. Murray has choreographed university and professional operas and has been a faculty member for the Amherst and Madison Early Music Festivals. She has performed and taught in the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.
