Baroque Ensemble Workshop with Kleine Kammermusik

February 4

| $95

Members of the baroque chamber ensemble Kleine Kammermusik will share their insights into playing with the inventiveness and style that characterize their performances.  Upper intermediate and advanced players of all melody instruments and continuo are welcome.

The morning offers two group sessions on important aspects of baroque performance.  You choose which session to attend as either a player or auditor.

Session 1  All about the Bass – Kleine Kammermusik’s continuo artists – harpsichordist Leon Schelhase, cellist/gambist Rebecca Humphrey and bassoonist Stephanie Corwin – work with participants on how to bring out baroque music’s fundamental focus on the bass line.
Session 2   The Art of Period Style  Kleine Kammermusik oboists Geoffrey Burgess and Meg Owens work with melody instrumentalists on performance practice in the Age of Eloquence, covering topics such as phrasing by gesture, agogic accents, pauses, and beat hierarchy.

In the afternoon sessions, Kleine Kammermusik members coach baroque ensembles of three to five players.  Bring your pre-formed ensemble or we will match you up.  Depending on interest, we may also offer a concerto grosso ensemble for those who prefer a larger group experience.
