“Beyond the Allemande” – interpreting the “Corrente”from J.S. Bach’s Partita in A minor

The Partita in A minor by Johann Sebastian Bach is a unique and fascinating work in the solo flute repertoire. It also presents many questions and challenges for both historical and classical flutists.
In this 30-minute online workshop, baroque flutist Teddie Hwang will break down the barriers to this music and invite everyone to appreciate and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the “Corrente”, which is often overshadowed by the Partita’s first movement “Allemande”. Using visual inspirations as her starting point, she will take selected passages to demonstrate how employing diverse articulation methods will allow flute players to discover the fine details of this music, as well as giving tips on performance and interpretation.
Have your flute ready! Participants will have a chance to do some hands-on playing of the exercises and concepts during the workshop.
