Courante Baroque Ensemble presents: FAMILY TIES
November 19 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST
$20
Courante baroque ensemble will perform a concert entitled “Family Ties,” Sunday, November 19 at Church of the Messiah, 22 Church St., Woods Hole, MA. This program explores music by members of the Bach, Purcell and Gibbons families, each of which included numerous composers. Some pieces may be very familiar, such as those from Bach’s notebook for Anna Magdalena; others feature lesser known composers like Christopher Gibbons, raised by his uncle after his famous father Orlando died.
Courante was founded in 2017, when Cape Cod musicians David Gable (violin), Jan Elliott (recorder) and Molly Johnston (viola da gamba) discovered a mutual affinity for beautiful and challenging chamber music from the baroque era. Brittany Lord (harpsichord) soon joined the group, completing the “basso continuo” portion of the ensemble. Named for the baroque dance form, and now in their 6th year, they aim to include a Bach organ trio and at least one Courante or Corrente in every program.
Admission by donation; $20 suggested.
