The Musical Legacy of Charles V: The Spanish-Flemish Connection

Few monarchs of the Renaissance can rival the impact Charles V had on the musical arts. His traveling musical establishment was sumptuous, replete with some of the most notable composers of the day, and his support of music and the arts in general was incomparable. This concert will be a cornucopia of some of the greatest composers and works that owe a debt either directly or indirectly to Charles V’s exemplary patronage of the musical arts from this fabled time.
