One hundred years after the death of architect Emmanuel Masqueray (1917-2017), the magnificent churches the Frenchman designed in Minnesota (e.g. Cathedral of Saint Paul and Basilica of Saint Mary) continue to impress and inspire, their towering presence now beloved fixtures in the physical identity of the Twin Cities. From a musical perspective, rising even higher above stained glass and archways, the glorious acoustics of these treasured spaces are both praiseworthy and a fitting focal point of The Rose Ensemble’s new program, Musique and Masqueray. Featuring works for choir, soloists, and period chamber instruments, the performance highlights Lententide choral compositions by some of France’s greatest Baroque-era composers, such as Marc-Antoine Charpentier and François Couperin.
Joining twelve singers of The Rose Ensemble for this program are guest instrumentatlists Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba), Scott Pauley (theorbo), and Bruce Jacobs (organ).
