Gracias a la Vida: Spanish and Latin Songs of Life and Love

September 18 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

contributions

The music of Latin America and Spain inspires our hearts to beat and our toes to tap. We know you will enjoy the passionate expressions and rhythmic delights of traditional folk dances and songs of love enhanced by beautiful images of Latin America and Spain. The Entwyned Early Music trio performs on historic parlor and Baroque guitars, lever harp, flutes, and gamba. The program features Chilean composer and singer Violetta Parra’s Gracias a la Vida eloquently performed by soprano Michelle Fiertek. The exciting music of Spain’s Diego Ortiz’s recercadas featuring the viola da gamba rounds out this luscious program.

Entwyned Early Music performances are internationally diverse and span the ages, medieval to contemporary, monody to jazz.  With our own arrangements, we play historic instruments including, large to small lutes, Baroque and Renaissance flutes, Baroque and Parlor Guitars, Celtic lever harp, and viola da gamba. In our performances we describe our instruments and provide colorful stories about the music and the composers or culture. Each performance is a delightful journey through musical time and travel.

Dee Hansen is a Professor Emerita of Music Education and author of the book 100 Years of Hartt: A Centennial Celebration. Neal Humphreys is the Dean’s Office Administrator for the Hartt School. He graduated from Hartt with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Cello Performance. Eric Hansen retired from the Connecticut State Library as Electronic Resources Coordinator.  He has multiple degrees in music and music history and performed as a professional bassist and lutenist on recordings and concerts with nationally known musicians.
