Music Before 1800 presents: Le Poème Harmonique

October 29 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Vincent Dumestre director and theorbo
Eva Zaïcik mezzo soprano

Imagine the Louvre, which now attracts visitors from across the globe, in the illustrious reigns of Henry IV, Louis XIII and the young Louis XIV. Versailles was still a hamlet and the seat of kings was embedded in the heart of Paris, between the murmuring Seine and the rumbling suburbs. Life, song and dance centered on the palace where each day was lived to the rhythm of the most refined and exquisite music.

From one score to the next, drawing on works by Lully, Charpentier, Moulinié, Cavalli and popular songs from its award-winning album, Aux marches du Palais, Le Poème Harmonique tells the fabulous story of the world’s most famous palace from 1600 – 1650.

‘Early-music group Le Poème Harmonique doesn’t spend nearly enough time in New York. We are defining nearly enough time as about every week. Minimum.’ – New York Times
