Shakespeare’s murderous tragedy is seen anew in Sir William Davenant’s Restoration-era adaptation which captivated audiences for most of the 18th century. With music from the original London performances–and other dramatic selections by Music Director Robert Eisenstein–this fully-staged theatrical production features songs and instrumental pieces performed by Folger Consort. Folger Consort musicians will be on stage and in costume. Folger Consort guest artists include:
Risa Browder, violin
Leslie Nero, violin
Nina Falk, viola
John Moran, cello
Dan Meyers, winds (including bagpipes!)
Webb Wiggins, harpsichord
Music includes selections by John Eccles from his original score to Davenant’s Macbeth, including instrumental overtures as well as songs for the three witches. Other selections include music of Matthew Locke, Henry Purcell, and Scottish folk music from the period to set the scene.
