Opera ~ La Púrpura de la Rosa/The Blood of the Rose

This opera The famous, fated, forbidden love affair between Venus, Goddess of Love, and the very mortal and handsome Adonis. The Spanish libretto, by the great Golden Age dramatist, Pedro Calderón de la Barca, is filled with suspense, seduction, and comedy. The music is rich in harmonies, plaintive melodies and Latin American dance rhythms. First performed in Lima, Peru, 1701. Featuring: Guadalupe Peraza, Mezzo-Soprano, and (Pictured) Grammy-nominated Jennifer Ellis Kampani, soprano with Nell Snaidas, guest director.
