SalonEra: Ximenez: Music & Politics
April 17 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT
Free
Latin American Music Nationalism is often understood as a 20th-century movement represented by composers such as Silvestre Revueltas (Mexico), Alberto Ginastera (Argentina) and Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brazil) among others. In this episode, SE favorite Karin Cuellar-Rendon and the Ximenez Quartet trace the early nation-building efforts of 19th-century Latin American composers Pedro Ximénez Abril Tirado (Bolivia-Peru), José Bernardo Alzedo (Chile), and Chiquinha Gonzaga (Brazil) who integrated elements of the European classical tradition with local musical genres.
NEW THIS YEAR: SalonEra episodes are simultaneously released as video and podcast episodes. Episodes are available to stream from their premiere date thru June 30, 2023.
SE is FREE to watch with a suggested donation of $15/episode. Support SE with a donation or join its Membership Program ($125) for on-demand access to Seasons 1 & 2 of this acclaimed series.
Highlights from this calendar are included in the weekly E-Notes email newsletter (Tuesdays). Selections are made based on variety of event types and geographic regions.
EMA does not share non-EMA events on our social media platforms.
