Robin Hood’s Summer Solstice Celebration
WANTED! Musicians, artists, dancers and actors for Robin Hood’s Summer Solstice Celebration in the enchanted Sherwood Forest! Robin Hood and his Merry Foresters are busy preparing for this special evening which is not to be missed! Join them in their merry-making feast as they share stories of their adventures in music, dance and theater.
Students will enjoy a week of instrumental and vocal music, dance, theater, and crafts, all while exploring music from the Elizabethan era and 17th century England.
Music Discovery Workshop & Youth Collegium is a premier workshop for the kids in grades 1-12. Originally founded by Lee McRae in 1994, it has established itself as a unique gem among music workshops for kids, not only here in the Bay Area, but in the nation.
For younger kids, in grades 1-6, looking for a fun, artistic introduction to early music, there is the Music Discovery Workshop—no prior musical training needed. The focus of the workshop is to introduce and immerse children in early music from the Middle Ages to the Classical period, while providing historical and cultural context, all in a fun, hands on way through songs, theater and arts and crafts.
The Youth Collegium is a concurrent program designed for older, more experienced students, in grades 7 – 12, who want to explore early music in greater depth. This year, the Youth Collegium participants will explore the music of the 17th century England, in works by Matthew Locke, William Lawes, Henry Purcell and others. In addition to having semi-private lessons, students will dedicate their time in All-Collegium band or choir. The students will also have dance, drama and art elective options.
