Music Before 1800 presents: TENET Vocal Artists
November 19 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EST

Shira Kammen vielle, harp and guest music director
Jolle Greenleaf soprano
Elisa Sutherland mezzo soprano
James Reese tenor
Our investigation into French music is rooted in the late medieval traditions of nascent gallic polyphony. Fortune and her wheel brought a wealth of music and art centered around the constant life changes that occur at the hands of the mighty goddess. Count- less songs and ballads were dedicated to life’s twists and turns by medieval composers, and stories of Fortune’s whimsical power extend well beyond the middle ages.
NYC’s own TENET will perform odes and laments created in honor of Fortune: Machaut’s Ha Fortune, Tribum que non abhorruit by Philippe de Vitry, O Fallaze e ria fortuna by Robertus de Anglia, Dufay’s Par droit je puis, and “Fortune Plange Vulnera” and “O Varium Fortune” from Carmina Burana.
Also featuring Dongmyung Ahn (vielle), Priscilla Herreid (winds), and Grant Herreid (lute).
There will be a Musical Conversation at the Maison Française, Columbia University on November 16 at 5.00pm.
Highlights from this calendar are included in the weekly E-Notes email newsletter (Tuesdays). Selections are made based on variety of event types and geographic regions.
