The Gentle Shepherd: Scotland’s first [folk] opera

September 24, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - September 25, 2016 @ 7:00 pm

| $25

The Bach & Beethoven Ensemble (BBE), led by Artistic Director Brandi Berry, will produce and perform the first Scottish “folk” opera, The Gentle Shepherd as a U.S. (re)premiere. With Scottish fiddle tunes as the “arias”, this not-your-grandmother’s-opera tells the tale of two couples in the shepherding hills of the highlands, the struggle between love and aristocratic duty, and a couple of old lassies who teach a wayward laddie a lesson with their “sorcerous” pranks!

September 24, 8pm, Szold Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music,  4545 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago

September 25, 7pm, Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. Chicago
