Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons: The Venetian Lion

June 2 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

$18 – $25

We will close out the 23-24 season with Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons: The Venetian Lion, which includes audience favorite the “Four Seasons,” featuring Juilliard faculty and violin virtuosa Cynthia Roberts as soloist. These four pictorial concerti trace the changes in weather characteristic of each season though the year via musical portrayal. In addition, the Scholars of St. Cecilia will join the instrumentalists, with added Baroque trumpet and oboe, for Vivaldi’s famous “Gloria.” A unique treat will be a vocal chorus from one of Vivaldi’s operas that “recycles” the opening movement of the “Spring” concerto. Preceding the Sunday concert at 3:30pm will be a talk about the music to be heard on the program. 4pm Shrine of Ss. Peter and Paul, 125 Fayette Street, Cumberland, Maryland.

As with all Mountainside Baroque performances, Baroque-style instruments, both strings and winds, offer an exciting and sonorous window into the music of that time. The June concerts will also mark the first appearance of the new Mountainside Baroque digital chamber organ. Mountainside is grateful to Allegany County’s Local Development Council (Rocky Gap distribution) for funding its purchase. Come and see the latest!

Tickets are available in advance or at the door. For specific program information and to hear and see other Mountainside Baroque performances, visit the website or call 301-338-2940.
