We’ll be There! Black and White Spirituals, 1800-1900
November 6 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT$10 – $60
With this new production, the Boston Camerata continues its trailblazing exploration of the American spiritual tradition, both black and white, with a special focus this time on the African-American contribution to a unique heritage. In collaboration with distinguished artists and ensembles, our program will trace the evolution of musical style, taste, and performance practice across several generations. Included will be folk hymns derived from English and Celtic folklore, African-derived call-and-shout group songs, links in the Black tradition to the experience of slavery, reminiscences of the Civil War, and shared celebrations of striving, freedom, and salvation.
