SUMMARY:Historical Dance with Catherine Turocy: "Taking It Slow"
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW\nThis practical session will take the performer through a slow sarabande phrase\, emphasizing the inner landscape of the music as it moves through the body into a danced action. The body will be explored as a moving sculpture or painting revealing concepts of beauty through the flow and rhythm of the music. \n\nCatherine Turocy\, co-founder of The New York Baroque Dance Company in 1976\, is recognized as one of today’s leading choreographer/reconstructors and stage directors in 17th and 18th century period performance. With over 70 Baroque operas to her credit\, she was decorated in 1995 by the French Republic as a Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. In April of 2020 she and her company were invited as guest artists to perform at the Royal Theater in Versailles\, one of the very few US companies of any dance style to receive this honor. In the US\, Turocy has mentored the dance artists working today in Baroque festivals across the country such as the Boston Early Music Festival\, the Aquilon Festival in Oregon and the Berkeley Early Dance Festival. \nShe has collaborated with leading conductors of our day including John Eliot Gardiner\, Christopher Hogwood\, James Richman\, Nicholas McGegan\, Ryan Brown\, Harry Bicket\, Philippe Herreweghe and Matthew Dirst.
