SUMMARY:A Mexican Christmas – presented by The Newberry Consort
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nOur beloved holiday tradition returns! \nThis December\
 , The Newberry Consort returns to its roots with a new program of festive 
 holiday music from Mexico.\nCurated by Newberry Consort Artistic Director 
 Liza Malamut in collaboration with musicologists Paul Feller-Simmons and I
 reri Chavez-Bárcenas\, this program will feature joyous villancicos and l
 ush sacred polyphony from the convent and cathedral of Puebla\, Mexico for
  voices\, winds\, plucked instruments\, and percussion.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\
 n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe concerts will feature sights and sounds for every
 one. A one-to-a-part women’s choir featuring Estelí Gomez\, Salomé San
 dovál\, Lucía Mier y Teran Romero\, Gabrielle Timofeeva López\, and Vic
 toria Marshall sings the beautiful polyphony of the Puebla convent\, joine
 d by Newberry Consort fan favorites Matthew Dean and Eric Miranda for the 
 large-scale cathedral music.\nThe singers are joined by a fabulous Baroque
  band featuring Dušan Balarin and William Simms (guitars\, vihuela\, theo
 rbo)\, Rachel Begley (bajón\, recorders)\, Andrés Guzman and Liza Malamu
 t (sackbuts)\, Anna Steinhoff (viola da gamba)\, Javier Saume Mazzei (perc
 ussion)\, and Jacob Reed (chamber organ).\nThe concert also features a bea
 utiful backdrop of historical imagery and bilingual translations by Newber
 ry Consort projection artist and historian Shawn Keener. A pre-concert dis
 cussion panel will be led by artistic director Liza Malamut and musicologi
