SUMMARY:AEM presents Paul O’Dette\, lute: The Extraordinary Manuscripts o
 f Albani da Urbino
DESCRIPTION:“…should I come to meet Saint Peter at the pearly gates\, I
hope he will say\, ‘… be sure to hear Paul O’Dette—he’s leading
the angel band.’” —Early Music America\nThis program is presented
in collaboration with the Tucson Guitar Society.\nAbout the Program\nNew D
iscoveries: The Extraordinary Manuscripts of Albani da Urbino\n\n\n\n\n\n\
n\nAn incredible collection of lute\, theorbo\, and viola da gamba manuscr
ipts was recently discovered in the library of an important Italian noble
family in Pesaro. The lute manuscripts of Albani da Urbino (1576–1653) c
ontain a large number of previously unknown works by Lorenzino Tracetti (1
552–1590) and the Cavaliere del Liuto (Knight of the Lute)\, the two m
ost important Italian lute virtuosi of the late 16th century. New Discove
ries revives these previously lost dances\, fantasias\, and variations th
at represent the pinnacle of Renaissance lute repertoire.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA
bout Paul O’Dette\, lute\n2x GRAMMY-award winner Paul O’Dette has be
en described as “the clearest case of genius ever to touch his instrumen
t” (Toronto Globe and Mail). One of the most influential figures in his
field\, O’Dette has helped define the technical and stylistic standards
to which twenty-first-century performers of early music aspire. In doing
so\, he helped infuse the performance practice movement with a perfect com
bination of historical awareness\, idiomatic accuracy\, and ambitious self
 -expression.\n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/7OTuZ4HDlng[/embed]
