SUMMARY:Early Music Missouri presents “Sonatas &amp\; Cantatas from North
 ern Germany"
DESCRIPTION:Early Music Missouri audience favorites Un tas de cordes return
to Early Music Missouri’s Mainstage Series with a program of 17th- and
18th-century German music. The trio will be joined by soprano Samantha Art
en for several devotional cantatas. The program features music by well-kno
wn composers like Georg Philip Telemann\, Dietrich Buxtehude and Heinrich
Schütz but also includes composers well-regarded in their lifetimes but l
ittle-known now. Vocal works include psalm settings by Schütz and Buxtehu
de for soprano and accompanying strings while instrumental music includes
trio sonatas by Telemann and Rosenmüller as well as solo pieces by Johann
Schop and Philipp Friedrich Böddecker.\nThe trio Un tas de cordes last a
ppeared on the EMMo Series in 2023\, performing a program of French chambe
r music. This new program expands their musical reach and offers listeners
a slightly different sound. Sarah Biber will take up the treble viola da
gamba for this concert\, pairing with Baroque violinist Samuel Breene for
trio sonatas\, a charming duo sonata and devotional works. Sam also offers
a solo violin sonata by Philipp Friedrich Böddecker while Sarah will pla
y Johann Schop’s set of virtuosic variations on John Dowland’s Lachrim
ae Pavan. Soprano Samantha Arten joins the trio for exciting psalm setting
s composed by Schütz for the Saxon court in Dresden and by Buxtehude for
the Marienkirche in Lübeck. Jeffrey Noonan will accompany throughout on t
heorbo.\nEMMo's six-concert Mainstage Series takes place at St. Peter's Ep
iscopal Church in Ladue MO. The space offers an exquisite sound and a beau
tiful setting for this music. Parking is free and both parking and the per
formance space are handicapped accessible.\nEarly Music Missouri is the re
gion's foremost promoter and presenter of Early Music concerts. Its perfor
mances feature Medieval\, Renaissance and Baroque repertoire performed on
period instruments by expert performers from the region and nation. For mo
