SUMMARY:Early Music Missouri presents "The Baroque String Band: Music by Lu
 lly\, Corelli &amp\; Muffat"
DESCRIPTION:Early Music Missouri audience favorites Daniel Lee\, Samuel Bre
ene &amp\; Charles Metz join forces for a concert of 17th-century sonatas
and suites that reflect the development of the Baroque string ensemble. Th
e program investigates the innovations of violinists &amp\; orchestra lead
ers Jean Baptiste Lully\, Arcangelo Corelli and Georg Muffat and features
elegant French dances\, exciting ciacconas and virtuosic Italian sonatas.
The ensembles these Baroque masters led were the forerunners of our modern
symphony orchestra and this concert brings these important musical roots
to life with period instruments played by EMMo's experts.\n\nBaroque violi
n virtuoso Daniel Lee thrilled the EMMo audience last season with his elec
trifying solo playing of two of Bach's Brandenburg Concerti while Baroque
violinist Samuel Breene has appeared numerous times with EMMo in chamber e
nsembles and leading the EMMo Chamber Orchestra. The two play together in
the Providence Baroque Orchestra but this is their first appearance togeth
er in St. Louis. Historical keyboard specialist Charles Metz performed for
St. Louis audiences for decades\, bringing to life music for virginals\,
harpsichords and pianofortes with the St. Louis Symphony\, Chamber Society
of St. Louis\, St. Louis Bach Society and Early Music Missouri. These thr
ee guest artists will be joined by Baroque violists Celina Boldrey and Tim
othy Eshing\, Baroque cello virtuoso Stephanie Hunt\, Baroque guitarist Pa
trick Rafferty\, and theorbist Jeffrey Noonan.\n\nEMMo's six-concert Mains
tage Series takes place at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue MO. The s
pace offers an exquisite sound and a beautiful setting for this music. Par
king is free and both parking and the performance space are handicapped ac
cessible.\n\nEarly Music Missouri is the region's foremost promoter and pr
esenter of Early Music concerts. Its performances feature Medieval\, Renai
ssance and Baroque repertoire performed on period instruments by expert pe
rformers from the region and nation. For more information\, visit earlymus
