SUMMARY:Hymn of Thanksgiving: Beethoven's Quartet Op. 132
DESCRIPTION:Baroque Music Montana presents “Hymn of Thanksgiving: Beethov
 en’s Quartet Op 132\,” with a period instrument string quartet. One of
  his final works\, Beethoven composed this piece upon recovery from an ass
 umed fatal illness\, entitling it ‘a prayer from a convalescent to the D
 eity.’ Principally inspired by the renaissance composer Palestrina\, Bee
 thoven uses ancient harmonies\, imitation\, and organ-like writing to invo
 ke the archaic church and holy reverence. Beethoven’s final string quart
 ets are profound\, transcendent works that revolutionized chamber music wi
 th unparalleled musical ingenuity\, complexity\, and emotional depth. Writ
 ten when he was deaf\, they are perhaps chamber music’s most revered wor
 ks.\nMusicians for this program include Los Angeles-based Andrew McIntosh\
 , a Grammy-nominated violinist\, violist\, and composer\, with composition
 al commissions from the LA Philharmonic and performances at Walt Disney ha
 ll to Miller Theatre and National Sawdust in NYC to Tectonics Festival Gla
 sgow in Scotland. He is Professor at the California Institute of the Arts 
 and a founding member of Wild Up\, the Formalist Quartet\, and Wadada Leo 
 Smith’s Red Koral Quartet. \nViolinist Carrie Krause resides in Bozeman
  as concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony and artistic director of Baroque
  Music Montana. She has recently performed at St. Martin’s in the Fields
  in London\, Utrecht Early Music Festival\, and Carnegie Hall\, and attend
 ed The Juilliard School. \nViolist Maureen Murchie\, concertmaster of the
  Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra\, and a member of the Handel and Haydn
  Society in Boston\, baroque and contemporary orchestras of Trinity Wall S
 treet\, Mark Morris Dance Company\, Harry Connick Jr.\, El Mundo (Carnegie
  Hall\, Feb 2023)\, and the Broadway pits of Tootsie\, Parade\, and Farine
 lli and the King. Maureen grew up in Sendai\, Japan and has worked as a Ja
 panese translator\, interpreter\, and editor. \nCellist Micheal Unterman 
 is co-principal cellist of Tafelmusik in Toronto\, and performs widely in 
 Boston and NYC. He was a Fulbright scholar in Barcelona\, and attended the
  New England Conservatory and The Juilliard School.\nBaroque Music Montana
  (BaMM) presents tunes and tales inspired by history. BaMM presents over 5
 0 concerts a year across Montana\, has appeared on concert series from Sea
 ttle to Montreal\, and has recorded two acclaimed albums.\n
