DESCRIPTION:Newton Baroque presents a program of motets for five and six vo
 ices by Vicente Lusitano and his contemporaries Nicolas Gombert\, Cristób
 al Morales\, and Adrian Willaert. Lusitano was among the first Black compo
 sers to publish music\, and most of the works on this concert come from hi
 s Liber primus epigramatum\, a 1551 collection of motets for five to eight
  voices. As was the case in 1550s Rome\, this concert will be sung by an a
 ll-male ensemble. Because this music will be so new to most of us\, and al
 so in order to celebrate the music of a distinguished composer with Africa
 n heritage\, our Artistic Director Andrus Madsen will offer a preconcert l
 ecture one hour before each performance.
