SUMMARY:Music Before 1800: Juilliard415
DESCRIPTION:In this vibrant program from the missions of Bolivia and Peru\,
  Juilliard415 explores the intersections of global and local Baroque. In t
 he mid-eighteenth century\, Jesuit missionaries brought Corelli\, Vivaldi\
 , Locatelli\, and others to their new missions in Chiquitos\, in southeast
 ern Bolivia. Versions of these pieces survive today in the archives of the
  Chiquitanía\, alongside anonymous sonatas and motets\, some in the indi
 genous languages of the region.\nOur program traces the arrival of Europea
 n religious music and its transformation inside the church\, and then turn
 s to popular music outside the church with some of the surviving indigenou
 s dances and songs of Peru from the Codex Martinez Compañón\, alongsid
 e folk-influenced songs by Juan de Araujo &amp\; Tomás de Torrejón.\n
