SUMMARY:Newton Baroque presents: Fantastic Tales: Harpsichord as Narrator i
n works by Froberger\, Kuhnau\, Bach and Madsen
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a special field trip to the astonishingly beautiful
St. Elizabeth's Chapel\, a small gem built in 1914 by renowned architect R
alph Adams Cram as his personal family chapel in the woods of Sudbury. Sit
ting in this remarkable little sanctuary built in the style of a 12th-cent
ury Norman chapel\, you’ll swear you’re in Europe. The 16th-century Sp
anish altar and the 18th-century Bavarian carving of Elizabeth of Hungary
will be the backdrop for harpsichord works that each tell a story. Andrus
will play Kuhnau's portrayal of the death of Jakob\, Froberger's musical p
ortrayal of a trip on the Rhine gone wrong\, and the young J.S. Bach's Cap
riccio on the departure of a beloved brother. And Andrus will tell a tale
or two of his own\, improvising at the keyboard.\nPlease note: Seating and
accessibility are limited in the chapel. The chapel is accessed by an unp
aved path through the woods. Please see further information at NewtonBaroq
 ue.org.
