SUMMARY:Tonos del Sur presents Lamentatio &amp\; Alegría
DESCRIPTION:Tonos del Sur\, directed by Sarah Cranor\, presents “Lamentat
 io y Alegría” as a way to hear baroque-era music from across South Amer
 ica through two contrasting lenses: first through high cathedral settings 
 of the Tenebrae text (the so-called “Lamentations of Jeremiah”)\, word
 s of a prophet in exile millennia ago\, written and performed by Spanish a
 nd Italian musicians living in the Americas\, and second through music fro
 m the Moxos and Chiquitos missions\, by and for indigenous musicians. \nO
 ur goal in presenting this program is to delight in this wonderful music w
 ithin complex circumstances\, use it as a lens to understand our past\, an
 d to reflect on how this might shape our future for the better.  Tonos in
 vites the listener to connect with these poets and musicians from the far 
 and near past\, through a shared sense of grief\, joy\, sadness\, dance\,
