The Bach Society of Minnesota was “HIP” before it was hip. “HIP” stands for “historically informed performance” — i.e., doing it darn close to the way it was played back in the day — and it was the hottest thing in classical music in the 1980s. But the Bach Society has been around since 1932, founded at a time when works by composer Johann Sebastian Bach didn’t find their way onto concert programs nearly as frequently as today.
