The “Piffaro – Introductions” exhibit provides photos, music, and videos that introduce Piffaro, the Renaissance Band and the period instruments that we use in our performances. The instruments have been specially commissioned and built for the band using designs developed from the band’s extensive research in order to more closely match the actual instruments of the period. Each instrument is described with photos along with a brief description. Video demonstrations by Piffaro musicians, then music samples with photos of those instruments used in a concert setting follow. Most of these instruments are the precursors to modern classical music instruments and are unfamiliar to the general public.
