Johann Theile’s “St. Matthew Passion” Webcast from Arcadia Players

ARCADIA PLAYERS ANNOUNCES SPECIAL EASTER WEEK WEBCAST               OF JOHANN THEILE’S                 ST. MATTHEW PASSION

Arcadia Players Ensemble and Chorus, with soloists William Hite, tenor, and John Salvi, baritone

Directed by Gregory Hayes

The German composer Johann Theile—a gifted pupil of Heinrich Schütz and a teacher of Dietrich Buxtehude—published his elegant Mätthaus-Passion in 1673, some 54 years before Johann Sebastian Bach created his own setting.

In 2023, Arcadia Players gave the first Western New England performance of Theile’s masterpiece at the Bombyx Center in Florence, MA, and now the video of that concert will be available on YouTube beginning Palm Sunday, April 13th, 2025, through the end of Easter Sunday on April 20th, 2025. The webcast will be offered without charge, but donations are encouraged. The webcast can be accessed by visiting the Arcadia Players website: arcadiaplayers.org beginning Sunday, April 13th, 2025.
