Piffaro opens the season with an inside look at the instruments that shaped the sound of the era. Bringing out both the heavy hitters and the less familiar, Piffaro’s massive instrumentarium will be on display, including shawms, dulcians, sackbuts, slide trumpets, krumhorns, Deutsche schalmeis, douçaines, recorders, flutes, bagpipes, lutes, guitars, hurdy-gurdy, and all manner of percussion. This program is the perfect introduction for new listeners, and a chance for those more familiar with Renaissance instruments to learn something new.
