Duo Remanence
Mana Tinkerhess, harpsichord
Eric Tinkerhess, cello and viola da gamba
Duo Remanence presents a musical journey in five acts, featuring music from the early eighteenth century written for harpsichord, cello, and viola da gamba. The concert begins with playful galant melodies and dance rhythms in cello sonatas by Antonio Vivaldi and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Then dense counterpoint in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata for Viol and Harpsichord animates vigorous dialogues between the players. “O Mother What Shall I Do” is a traditional Scottish tune arranged by the cellist James Oswald, followed by Marin Marais’s “Le Badinage” and “Le Labyrinthe,” pièces de caractères that evoke the passions of a witty conversation and a perilous labyrinth maze.
