Pombalino highlights Lisbon’s musical heritage before and after the 1755 earthquake, drawing inspiration from the city’s reconstruction. Works by Costa, Leite, Almeida, Avondano, and Nogueira showcase influences from Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. These pieces symbolize Lisbon’s resilience, much like the interlocking Pombalino tiles that represent the city’s rebirth and interconnected cultural strength.

As The Crow Flies is a dynamic ensemble of musicians from The Juilliard School and Koninklijk Conservatorium den Haag, dedicated to exploring and reviving the music of the 17th and 18th centuries. By journeying through the historic trade routes of the past, this collective uncovers and brings to life long-lost musical treasures. Its repertoire spans from the heart of Europe and the Low Countries to the distant corners of the West and East. Through their performances, As The Crow Flies aims to deepen our appreciation and understanding of historical performance practices, offering fresh insights into the rich tapestry of early music.

Join us live in person at St. Malachy Roman Catholic Church – The Actors’ Chapel or online via our YouTube channel. The Midtown Concerts series is a production of Gotham Early Music Scene and free to the public.
