Acclaimed women’s vocal ensemble In Mulieribus presents A Carnival of Miracles, a powerful and enlightened musical journey exploring the topsy-turvy nature of existence, divine intervention, and the complex spectra of human freedom.
The concert centers on Richard Einhorn’s titular work featuring the In Mulieribus ensemble accompanied by guest cellists Valdine Mishkin and Eric Alterman. Weaving together texts in multiple languages spanning sixteen centuries—the work explores the multi-faceted nature of personal freedom, challenging us to re-think and expand our understanding of religious, scientific, artistic, sexual, and political freedom.
Complementing Einhorn’s modern masterpiece are medieval selections that reflect the cyclical nature of time, divine healing, and the pursuit of joy, including works by Machaut (Ma fin est mon commencement), Frye (Sospitati dedit), and selections from the 13th-century Cantigas de Santa Maria, which recount everyday miracles of divine healing and protection experienced by ordinary people.
