Six free concerts bring historically informed performance, guest artists, and rarely heard repertoire to Boise
BOISE, Idaho — September 12, 2026 — Pendulum Early Music will launch its 2026–27 concert season on September 26, beginning a six-concert series of free performances at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Boise.
Pendulum Early Music is a Boise-based nonprofit ensemble dedicated to historically informed performance on period instruments. Co-founded in 2024 by violinist Geoffrey Hill and cellists Brian Hodges and Kevin McTeague, Pendulum brings together musicians from the Boise area and beyond to perform music of the Baroque and early Classical periods.
The 2026–27 season continues Pendulum’s commitment to presenting concerts without admission charges, making historically informed performance available to a broad community.
The season includes:
September 26 — Il Fuoco Italiano
The season opens with a program inspired by the color and drama of 18th-century Italian opera, featuring Idaho coloratura soprano Jordan Bowman.
November 15 — After the Scotch Humor
A program exploring the popularity and influence of Scottish music in 18th-century Europe.
January 16 — A Shared European Language
Music from the galant era, when composers and performers across Europe developed a lighter and increasingly international musical style.
March 22 — Handel’s Dixit Dominus
Pendulum joins the St. Michael’s Schola Cantorum for Handel’s youthful and dramatic setting of Dixit Dominus, bringing together period instruments and voices in the cathedral.
April 10 — Anything But Bach!
A program of unaccompanied solo music that looks beyond Bach to the broader tradition of 17th- and 18th-century music for solo instruments.
May 8 — Cabinet of Curiosities
The season concludes with an eclectic collection of unusual works and musical discoveries from the 17th and 18th centuries.
“Our goal is to give Boise audiences the opportunity to hear this music in the kind of sound world for which it was written, while keeping the concerts welcoming and accessible,” said Pendulum co-founder Kevin McTeague. “This season gives us the chance to explore a particularly wide range of music and to work with musicians from throughout our community.”
Education remains an important part of Pendulum’s work. Through its Historical Performance Institute, coaching, and collaborations with area musicians, the organization is expanding opportunities to study and perform early music in southwest Idaho. Pendulum received a 2025 Early Music America Engagement Award seed grant in support of this work.
All 2026–27 Pendulum Early Music concerts are free and open to the public.
