Biography
Charlotte Tang is a pianist/fortepianist specializing in early nineteenth-century repertoire and historical keyboard instruments. She is particularly interested in the dialogue between past and present through the juxtaposition of historical and modern pianos.
A laureate of the 2024 Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges and a 2025 Emerging Artist of Early Music America, Charlotte has been praised by La Libre Belgique as an “expressive, fine chamber musician.” Her performances have been heard across North America and Europe, including appearances at Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Banff Centre, Saxon Shore Early Music Festival, WQXR, and WFIU, among leading historical-keyboard venues and institutions.
In the 2026–27 season, Charlotte will be heard at Hammer Baroque (Sep), Ottawa Xenia Concerts, Musical Mosaic@TEMC, University Museum and Art Gallery (Hong Kong), and will serve as Musician-in-Residence at Avaloch Farm. She is also a regular guest artist at universities and music communities in Canada and abroad.
At the heart of Charlotte's artistic practice is a fascination with the expressive possibilities of historical and modern keyboard instruments. Building on this experience, her research interests center on the affordances of instruments and how instrumental design shapes expressive and interpretive possibilities in performance. This research continually informs her creative and scholarly work.
Charlotte holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Toronto.
