The Cambridge Society for Early Music (CSEM) announces the first concert weekend of its 2026-27 Season, which marks the debut of Trio Langostino, bringing together celebrated musicians Cynthia Roberts (violin), Phoebe Carrai (cello), and Peter Sykes (harpsichord) for the first time. CSEM will offer Pay-What-You-Can performances in Cambridge, Weston, and Beverly Farms.
Peter, Cynthia, and Phoebe have been friends since they met in the late ’70s at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. They all went on to establish successful international careers; it was only after many years of traveling and performing that they met up again and discovered how wonderful it was to make music together. Now all three members teach together at the Juilliard School in New York and have started performing together regularly. They all have Cape Cod connections, and love the ocean and its delicious bounty: hence the name Trio Langostino.
The trio will invite audiences into the Baroque era with a showcase of their all-time favorite works by Bach and Biber, along with the lesser-known Stradella, de Boismortier and Platti. The three are widely known for their virtuosity and exceptional mastery of their historical instruments while retaining the thrill of discovery and infectious musical joy. All experienced teachers, they will share their extensive knowledge throughout the concert with insightful and entertaining introductions to the works. Audiences are invited to a post-concert reception at each venue to meet the musicians and instruments up close.
