Competition: February 12, 2022

Bach Akademie Charlotte is thrilled to announce the launch of the Carolina Bach Competition, an annual competition that gathers exceptional student and adult musicians from across the Carolinas for a day of adjudication, education, college counseling, and campus tours — a unique and transformative experience for young musicians & their families.

Highlights of the 2022 Competition

  • Public masterclass with internationally-renowned Baroque cellist Guy Fishman, Principal Continuo of the Bach Akademie Orchestra
  • Competition finalists perform in a public concert at Queens’ Sandra Levine Theatre in the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement
  • Prizes include a Baroque bow and performance opportunities at the 2022 Charlotte Bach Festival
  • Access to admissions counseling and Queens University campus tours

Applications are open now! The competition is open to students age 12-18 who live in North or South Carolina and study with a private music teacher. Students will be asked to submit an application comprised of a video performance of one piece written before 1800 as well as a brief personal statement.

Amateur adult musicians are also welcome and encouraged to apply! While the adult category is not a competition, applicants will have the opportunity to perform repertoire for feedback by an esteemed panel of judges.

Learn more & apply at bacharlotte.com/education/competition. Applications due December 15.
