CSEM presents up-and-coming Arrow Quartet with a Classical program

CSEM presents Arrow Quartet with a Classical program :
Viennese Impressions: String Quartets from the Age of Enlightenment

Cambridge Society for Early Music presents Arrow Quartet, an up-and-coming string quartet founded in 2021 by students from Juilliard’s Historical Performance program, in a program featuring string quartets from the Classical period including Mozart’s K. 428. The group will perform at three venues in the Greater Boston area on May 22-24, 2026.

The young quartet brings a passion for exploring the Classical string quartet repertoire using historical instruments and performance techniques. This includes discovering lost gems in the repertoire as well as fascinating intersections between composed music and that performed outside of the concert hall. Viennese Impressions centers around Mozart’s String Quartet in E-flat major, K. 428, one of six quartets Mozart  dedicated to his mentor Joseph Haydn, often referred to as “the father of the string quartet.” From there, the program explores works by the lesser-known Guiseppe Cambini and Franz Xaver Richter, both prolific and popular composers in their time, who made important contributions to the development of the string quartet genre.

The musicians of the Arrow Quartet are themselves informed by an array of musical styles and traditions. Their collective experience encompasses formal conservatory training, traditional fiddle music, music education, and historical performance. The quartet strives to create an atmosphere where listeners can experience music in any way that feels intuitive. Its programs include repertoire chosen from a wide variety of temporal, geographical, and sociocultural locations.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Weston Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
