15 May 2012 [Seattle, WA] — Early Music America, the national service organization for the field of early music, announces the winners of its 2012 summer workshop scholarships. This year, EMA is awarding TEN scholarships to support outstanding young performers of early music. The students will attend summer early music workshops and receive advanced training in the field of early music.
This year’s winners, in alphabetical order, are Megan Chartrand, soprano, a graduate student at Yale, who will attend the Accademia d’amore in Seattle; Carlos Cuestas, guitar, a graduate student at Brooklyn College CUNY, who will also attend the Accademia d’amore; Ching Yi Denise Fan, cello, a graduate student at Boston University, who will attend Amherst Early Music; Brennan Hall, countertenor, a graduate student at Indiana University, who will attend the American Bach Soloists Academy; Allen Hamrick, bassoon, a senior at the North Carolina School of the Arts, who will attend the Tafelmusik Baroque Institute; Lindsay McIntosh, oboe, a graduate student at Boston University, who will attend the International Baroque Institute at Longy; Lindsey McLennan, soprano, a graduate student at Indiana University, who will attend the Orford Baroque Vocal Workshop in Quebec; Michael Pecak, fortepiano, a graduate student at Indiana University, who will attend the Vancouver Baroque Programme; Annabeth Shirley, cello, a senior at the University of Michigan, who will attend the Tafelmusik Baroque Institute; and Christine Wilkinson, violin, a graduate student at Case Western, who will attend the Vancouver Baroque Programme.
In the event that any of the winners cannot attend a workshop this summer, two alternates have been named: WeiJo Chen, harpsichord, a graduate student at Stony Brook University, and James Williamson, cello and gamba, a graduate student at the Longy School of Music.
