Claudio Monteverdi 450 Anniversary Concert presented by Bach Society of Charleston

September 24 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

| Tickets may be purchased online for $25 or with cash or credit card at the door; student tickets $10 at the door.

2017 commemorates the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth.  To celebrate the life and music of one of the greatest composers of all time, the Bach Society of Charleston will present a program that will include selections from two of Monteverdi’s most representative collections of sacred and secular repertoire, the Selva Morale e Spiritulale and the Book 8 of Madrigals of War and Love.  Artistic Director Ricard Bordas has chosen some of his personal favorites by this composer from Cremona, Italy: the motet “Beatus Vir,” the madrigal “Hor Che’ Ciel e la Terra” with lyrics by the poet Francesco Petrarca, and the gorgeous lament “Lamento della Ninfa.”

Performers will be the Charleston Baroque Voices and Players:  Margaret Kelly Cook and Katherine Clarkson, sopranos; Ricard Bordas, countertenor/conductor;  Stanley Warren, tenor; Daniel Cole, bass;  Erika Cutler and Allison Willett, baroque violins;  David Hunt, viola da gamba;  Salome´ Sandoval, archlute;  Murray Forbes Somerville, organ/harpsichord.
