Baroque Dance of Nations: 6-class workshop series taught by Dance Through Time Artistic Director and San Francisco Conservatory of Music professor of Baroque Dance,  Jennifer Meller
A popular theme for French choreographers in the 18th century was to take inspiration from neighboring nations. There are many surviving dance notations that appear to evoke virtuosic dances of Italy, rhythmic dances of Spain, character dances of England, and the opulent dances of France. In this 6-part workshop series we’ll try our feet at reconstructing these various notated dances and their signature step variations, and embody the characters they reveal to us. This is a somatically based movement class suitable for all ages and levels. Drop-ins are OK but there will be some continuity to the entire series.

Example dance forms covered: bourée/rigaudon/gavotte, minuet/passepied, courante, sarabande/folia, chaconne/passacaille
