Join Capriccio Baroque for the premier performance of a most extraordinary work…
Echoing J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier with its 48 Preludes and Fugues, Janine Johnson, composer, harpsichordist, and harpsichord builder, gives the premier performance of her vividly programmatic set of Preludes and Fugues which, like Bach’s, follow the circle of fifths.
Written during the transformative year 2020, The Therapeutic Harpsichord became a form of musical journal. It gives musical shape to the shifting emotional landscape of that year – the sense of solitude and disquiet alongside the unexpected flashes of joy in nature and the daily pleasures of life.
This is the second of three concerts offered in Capriccio Baroque’s Harpsichord Festival 2026. The cycle of three concerts presents a kaleidoscope of harpsichord music written across time – from the Baroque to the 20th century to today – highlighting the instrument’s versatility and expressive voice. Across the three concerts, these different eras of music meet, echo, and illuminate one another, revealing unexpected connections.
