Invitation to Élisabeth’s Salon
Shelby Yamin ~ violin
Caitlyn Koester ~ harpsichord
Travel through time to the scintillating salons of Versailles. The court of Louis XIV set the scene for European culture, and salons such as those held by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre explored the greatest local and international musique du jour. Hear Élisabeth’s favorite works by Corelli, harmonically-astonishing sonatas by Jacquet de La Guerre, and even music published by 11-year-old prodigy Charlotte Françoise de Ménethoud.
Shelby Yamin and Caitlyn Koester met as students in Juilliard’s Historical Performance program in 2018. In 2022 they made their duo debut in San Francisco, where they were resident artists curating a concert series at St. John’s in the Mission. From opera aria arrangements to animal-themed programs, Shelby’s and Caitlyn’s concerts feature whimsical topics and represent the gamut of Baroque musical life.
Join us live in person at St. Malachy Roman Catholic Church – The Actors’ Chapel or online via our YouTube channel. The Midtown Concerts series is a production of Gotham Early Music Scene and free to the public.
