SOUNDSCAPES OF THE SEPHARDIC DIASPORA
East of the River

On the eve of the Jewish New Year, East of the River evokes the cycle of life – the sacred and the secular. From synagogues to Shabbat dinners, from wedding parties to kitchen hearths, with songs about the joys, sorrows, and yearnings of everyday life, this program celebrates the rich traditions of the Sephardic diaspora.

“Though mostly a reflection of deep religious conviction, [East of the River] ultimately celebrates the myriad idiosyncrasies of intercultural connections. In that, these musicians serve as superb ambassadors with the verve of a 15th-century jam-session.”
